HISTORY OF THE FORTY-SEVENTH O.V.V.I. edited by Joseph A. Saunier, Page 522, Roster of Co. E 47th O.V.I.: Abraham T. Craig, Sergeant, Age 23, Enlisted June 15, 1861, for 3 yrs., appointed Corporal------, captured July 22, 1864, at battle of Atlanta, Ga., appointed Sergeant July 23, 1964, discharged June 19, 1865, at Camp chase, Ohio by order of War Department; veteran.

During the Battle of Atlanta Union lines were flanked, & temporarily forced back from their defenses. Page 333 of above narrative states: "At the works a fierce struggle, & hand-to-hand conflict occurred over our colors, in which the enemy was punished most severely in the struggle. Corporal McCarthy of the color guard was captured, Corporal Abraham Craig of the color guard was wounded, & captured, & Henry Beckman, color Sergeant was wounded.
