IDENTITY REVEALED
Drowned Woman Is Mrs. Bridget Crain, Who Was Coming
Here to Visit Her Sister, Mrs. M. J. Leonard
(article on p. 1)
After lying for thirty-six hours at the morgue of Spikes & McDonald, the body of the woman drowned Thursday night in the east canal of the Chicago and Northwestern Railroad yards, was identified this afternoon by Mrs. M. J. Leonard, of this city, as that of her only sister, Mrs. Bridget Crain. Mrs. Crain had no one place to call home, as she had been stopping from time to time with some one of her eleven children. She formerly resided at Eldorado, where her husband, the late Patrick Crain, and she lived for abut fifty years and where her husband was buried. The manner in which the remains were identified was through the finding of a second hand-satchel this morning by railroad men who had heard that the dead woman had a second satchel and instituted a search for it. In this a letter was found which showed that the woman was a sister of Mrs. Leonard, and Constable S. D. Moody went to the residence and notified the sister, who came to the morgue of Spikes & McDonald and identified the body. Mrs. Crain visited her sister in this city a few days ago, leaving on Wednesday morning for Menasha to see her daughter, Mrs. Joe Sensenbrenner. The later was to remove to Shiocton today, and Mrs. Crain was to return to Oshkosh, bringing some of her personal effects with her. Mrs. Leonard is of the opinion that her sister must have come from Menasha on Thursday night and gone to the south side by mistake. The deceased woman has four other daughters besides Mrs. Sensenbrenner, one of whom is Mrs. Joe Wickert, and all of whom live at Escanaba, Mich. Six sons are also left, but the present address of them all is not known to Mrs. Leonard. Three brothers, James B. Murray, of Nekimi; Edward Murray, of Eldorado, and Thomas Murray of Cresco, Ia., also survive. The funeral arrangements have not been made, but the body will be buried at Eldorado. The coroner's jury this morning met at ten o'clock, but in the absence of identification, adjourned to Tuesday morning at ten o'clock.
