The former Doshia Patterson, she was born June 30, 1889, in Jack County, the daughter of the late W R Patterson and Evelyn A Morrow Patterson. She came to Collingsworth County with her parents as a small girl and lived in North Wellington.
On Dec 24, 1905, she married Sam Karnes, in Collingsworth County. He died in 1921. She married John Dix in 1925, and he preceded her in death in 1972. They lived away from Wellington about 10 years, at Pratt, Kansas and in Dalhart.
A long-time member of First Baptist Church, Mrs Dix taught a Sunday School class for many years and was a member of the Women's Missionary Union.
For a long period, she belonged to a Home Demonstration Club and represented the county clubs at meetings on the state level in College Station. She was a leader in 4-H Club work, encouraging her own daughter and others to excell in this work. She participated in the early county fairs, winningmany ribbons. Mrs. Dix belonged to the Good Neighbor Club many years.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, Feb 26, at 2 pm in First Baptist Church. Officiating were Mrs Dix's nephew, the Rev Dinzel Leonard, pastor of First Baptist Church, Yukon, OK and the Rev Stanley Hughes, pastor. Burial was in South Fairview Cemetery under the direction of Guy Owens Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were grandsons: Bill Karnes, Mike Karnes, Richard Fourmen, Barry Richards, Wayne Tutt and Wayne Brassel.
Surviving Mrs Dix are a son, Leonard Karnes, Wellington; two daughters, Mrs Irma Karnes Richardsof Amarillo and Mrs Jondalon Dix Horak of Dallas; one brother, J R Patterson of Mobeetie; 10 grandchildren and 12 greatgrandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Oletha Karnes Fourmentin, on Sept. 13, 1935.
