Hagop was the son of Mugurditch (which his family turned into Mitchell in English) and Mariam Stepanian Obozian per his death certificate. According to his Ellis Island record when he immigrated to Philadelphia in 1913, Mariam was his contact back home, meaning his father must have already died. Hagop (Jacob in English) went to join his maternal uncle Nishan Stepanian. In 1920, Nishan's son Manuel married Margaret Sookasian, and on July 31, 1927 Hagop was married to her sister Arax. Hagop and Arax were the parents of sons Mitchell and Harry. He worked as a dry cleaner. Hagop died at his home 654 E. Thayer Street in Philadelphia of acute dilation of the heart due to chronic myocarditis.
