SOL BABITZ
b. October 11, 1911 Brooklyn, NY; d. February 1982 – Abbey of the Psalms, Sanctuary of Memories) Husband of artist Mae Babitz, he was a contract violinist for 20th Century Fox and he also worked as a teacher, lecturer, author of several articles and editor of the ‘International Museum (Union) Magazine.' Babitz authored the book ‘The Baroque in Music and Art,' and was the first concertmaster of the Ojai Festival. He resided at 5304 La Mirada Avenue in Hollywood and at one time had a $5,000 violin stolen from his residence. The violin was made in 658 in Germany – luckily the violin turned up a few days later in a neighbor's backyard.
