He was the son of Charles Augustus (1872-1925) and Josephine Herron (1878-1923) Hammond.

His half siblings: Laura Elizabeth Hammond King (1899-1987), Velma Lottie Hammond Harmon (1902-1962) and infant brother (1906-1906).

Charles' middle name (DAVIDSON): from his maternal grandmother's maiden name. His birth certificate may show: DAVESON or DAVISON. Charles was born in Missouri.

The family moved back to North Vernon at the end of 1916 or in January 1917. (His sister, Laura, married in November 1917.) By about January 1918 his parents separated and he, his mother and his sister (Velma) moved to Greenwood, Indiana. His father stayed in Elizabethtown, Indiana with his parents and raised horses and followed the horse circuit.

Charles' mother died in June 1923 in Greenwood and he went to Elizabethtown and was raised by his Uncle George and Aunt Martha Hammond. His father continued to work the horse circuit and died in 1925.

Charles graduated from Scipio High School in Jennings Co, Indiana in 1928.

He first married Hazel Irene Sullivan (1910-1978) on 21 June 1928. They had a child: Norma Mae Hammond Lynch Wiley Connor Thomas Meredith.

He second married Emma Mae Harrison (1919-1990) on 4 January 1938 in Greenfield, Indiana. Children: Charles Lee Hammond and Linda Kay Hammond Wilson Cooney.

He third married Verna May Kollmeyer (1925-2008) on 3 May 1964 in French Lick, Indiana.

He retired in 1975 after 41 years with Arvin Industries and was a member of Rock Creek United Methodist Church and Westport Odd Fellows Lodge.

He died at age 84 years 4 months 20 days.
