Victim of a plane collision which occurred over Pacoima Middle School. He was piloting a Scorpion military fighter jet from the Northrop facility in Palmdale while performing a routing maneuver when it hit a Douglas aircraft in midair. The jet exploded and Owen went down with it while the radio operator, Curtiss Adams, was able to eject and parachute. All those aboard the aircraft, pilot William Carr, co-pilot Archie Twitchell, radio operator Roy Nakazawa and flight engineer Waldo Adams perished. That plane crashed into the athletic field of the Middle School, killing three boys, Ronnie Brann, Robert Zallan and Evan Elsner. As a result of the collision new regulations were enforced regarding the restriction of test flights above urban populous areas and also statewide plans for disasters at schools.
