Evelyn Rogers Gillon
GREENWOOD -- Graveside services for Evelyn Rogers Gillon, 81, of Greenwood, who died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2000, at Greenwood Leflore Hospital, will be at 2 p.m. today at Odd Fellows Cemetery with the Rev. J.G. Babb officiating.
Burial will follow under the directions of Wilson & Knight Funeral Home in Greenwood.
Visitation is from 1 p.m. until service time today at the funeral home.
She was born in Greenwood and attended school in Minter City and at Delta State University. She was a member of Minter City United Methodist Church, where she served as Sunday school superintendent for many years, and she served on the Minter City School Board. Her family were Leflore County pioneers. She and her husband, William H. Gillon Jr., lived in Minter City until shortly before his death in 1993.
Survivors include one son, Billy Gillon of Natchez; one daughter, Bebe Jones of Tampa, Fla.; one grandson, Hugh Gillon IV of Madison; one granddaughter, Meg Gillon of Natchez; and four great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Hal Pleasants Jr., Dudley Pleasants, Jim Bowen, Tommy Sturdivant, Bobby Wells and Allen Mize.
Honorary pallbearers will be friends of the family.
The family request memorials be made to Minter City United Methodist Church or favorite charity.
