Dr. Emory Clifford Watkins, 78, of Brooklet died Monday, February 15 at a private hospital in Nashville, Tenn. Dr. Watkins was a native of Ellijay. He was a 1907 graduate of the University of Louisville medical college. He practiced medicine in Ellijay and Snapping Shoals before going to Brooklet. Dr. Watkins was a member of the Brooklet Methodist Church and of local, state and national medical societies.

Survivors are his wife, the former Effie Shearouse; a son, Emory Clifford Watkins Jr., Houston, Texas; a daughter, Mrs. Jessie Powell Jr., Athens, Tenn.; and a brother, Dr. Ed W. Watkins, Ellijay.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon, February 17, at the Brooklet Methodist with the Rev. William Chappel and Dr. Mack Anthony officiating. Burial was in the Brooklet Cemetery. Stewards of the Brooklet Methodist Church served as pallbearers. Smith-Tillman Mortuary was in charge of the arrangements.
