SCHLEGEL, SAMUEL R. --- Samuel R. Schlegel, 81 of Beaver Springs RR1 died at 6:01 am. Sunday, December 5, 1993 at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born October 25, 1912 in Delaware Township, Juniata County, he was a son of the late J. Park and Annie J. [Gross) Schlegel. His wife, Blanche E. [Kipp] Schlegel, whom he married in 1934, survives. Also surviving are: children, Sandra Schlegel, at home, Cynthia Blevins, Gettysburg; two grandsons. He had attended Susquehanna University. He had farmed in the Beaver Springs area for many years, refiring in the mid-1980s, having sold Pioneer Seed Corn. He was a former bank director of the First National Bank of Mifflintown, retiring in 1992 after 40 years of service. He served as president of the Beaver Springs Water Authority, served as president of the local Dairymen's League, was a member of the West Snyder School Board during the 1950s and 1960s, was a former member of the Beaver Fair Board and was a member of Christ United Church of Christ Church, Beaver Springs, where he had attended church, Sunday school and served many years on the church council. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Christ UCC church, with Rev. David Meckley officiating. Interment will be in Beaver Springs Cemetery. Arrangements were handled by the Jerre I. Aurand Funeral Home, Beavertown. Memorial contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund of the Christ UCC Church, Beaver Springs, PA 17812.
