Betsy Ann Bancroft was born in New Burilng, New York Nov 30, 1820. She was married to Edmond V Thornton April 6, 1848. To this union six children were born, three sons and three daughters, a son and a daughter preceeded her to the other shore some years ago. Mrs Thornton, her husband and family emigrated from New York to Winnebago County, Illinois in 1846. THe fall of 1877 they removed to Nebraska and in the spring of 1879 to Graham county, Kansas and finally in 1890 to Glen Elder where her husband died AUgust 13, 1893. Since the death of her husband, sister Thornton has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. Sweet, where she fell asleep in Jesus at 1:30, Feb 14, 1899, aged 78 years, 2 months and 13 days.
The funeral services were conducted at the M.E. Church after which the remains were laid to rest in the city cemetery.
