Letter of 20 Oct 1944 written by Alice Isabel Proctor to her nephew George M. Proctor:
"My father left Guildhall May 23rd 1858 for California my mother with her four boys came by boat as father did, crossed the isthmus by train (I suppose) to another steamer arrived in San Francisco the year 1860. Father was located at Pine Grove Amador County I was born there February 1861 the first white child in that little village and the first daughter of my mother and father. Father's first wife died left a boy & girl. 2 & 4 years old. Edgar and Elvira all my brothers & sisters are dead there were eight of us. Five boys and three girls"
