Martin was born on 16 Oct. 1862 at Sobczyn, Ostrow, Wielkopolski, Poland. He immigrated to America, reaching the Port of Baltimore on 9 May 1888. He married Magdalena "Maggie" Budnick in Minnesota during 1889. the June 1900 census has the family farming in Culdrum Township, Morrison County, MN. By 1920 the couple was living in Little Falls where Martin died during 1939.

The Czarnowski family shares a single gravestone inscribed in Polish. It reads, “Here are buried with children,” Marcina and Magdaleni Czarnowskich (plural of Czarnowski), without their years of birth and death listed. Other sources show they were born in Poland during 1862 and 1864, respectively, and died in Minnesota during 1939 and 1946. The English equivalents of their first names are Martin and Magdelena.
