Born Jan 13, 1869 in Troy Pa. the son of Charles C. and Lucy (Bothwell) Paine. He worked at the Syracuse Post newspaper and when Dr. Mundy retired as the librarian of the Syracuse Public Library in 1915 Paine was appointed to take his position. Syracuse University bestowed the Dr. of Literature degree in him in 1918. Paine married Maud E. Featherly, daughter of F.M. and Salome (Wise) Featherly and had two children, David and Margaret. He died in 1955.
