Lydia Ann Irish Wells was born Jan 25, 1861, near Springville, and died Jan 19, 1926, at the home of her daughter, Mrs Ada May Paul near Center Point. She lived near Springville nearly all her life. She was married to Eugene E Wells, Oct 28, 1878. Ten children were born to this union, one dying in infancy. Mr Wells died June 10, 1910. She was a member of the Royal Neighbors Lodge of Springville and the Methodist Church. After her husband's death, she worked and struggled to keep a home for her children which she did with great care until they were married and in homes of their own. Since that time, she made her home with Mrs Ada May Paul and has spent many enjoyable hours with her other children. She loved her children very dearly and will be greatly missed by them. During her last sickness, she maintained her sweet, patient disposition until the angel of death kissed her eyelids down in the sweet sleep of death, at the age of 64 years, 11 months, and 24 days. She leaves to mourn her loss her children, Mrs Nellie Wright, Mrs Lena Ann Williams, Joel W Wells, Plin Wells, Mason E Wells, Mrs Valentine Thumma, Mrs Ada May Paul, Carl H Wells, Ralph C Wells, 39 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Funeral services were held from the Ernest Paul home Thursday at 1pm Jan 21, the Rev John William McKee of Ottumwa officiating. Music was furnished by Mrs Clara Aslock and Mrs Flora Laning, with Mrs Daisy Hoglan at the piano. Eight grandsons served as pallbearers and were George Wells, Othol Wright, Rollo Wright, Donald Wells, Roy Williams, Marvin Williams, Clifford Wells, and Charley Williams.
