Mr. Martin E. Griner - ELLABELL - Mr. Martin E. Griner, 87, passed away Sunday, February 20, 2011 at St. Joseph's Hospital. The Hiltonia, GA native was a member of First Baptist Church of Pooler, where he had served in many capacities, including serving on the Building Committee when the Church was built. He was ordained as a deacon on October 9, 1960 and became a deacon emeritus in the mid- 2000's. Mr. Griner served with the Seabees in the US Navy during World War II. He retired from Union Camp after 42 years of service. He was preceded in death by his mother, Mary Dotson Griner; father, Martin "Good" Griner; brothers, Benjamin, Cecil, and Roy Griner; sister, Juanita Griner Hester; and great-granddaughter, Ashlynn Cowart. Survivors include the love of his life, his wife of 67 years, Edith Mercer Griner; daughters, Ann Griner Sherrod and Jan Griner; son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Rebecca Griner; twelve grandchildren, Melanie and Bart Crowe, Jeni and Eric Prince, Mandy Harrison, Stephen and Selena Cowart, Kris and Denise Griner, Barry and Laura Cowart, and Malerie "Papa's Bug" Sherrod; twelve great-grandchildren, Talara Crowe, Sierra Cowart, Joshua Afroozi, Brandon Afroozi, Gavin Cowart, Myah Cowart, Cooper Harrison, Mina Griner, Abbie Cowart, Isabella Crowe, Andrew Cowart, and Harker Griner; sister, Mary Griner Jones; sister-in-law, Faye Talley Griner; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Visitation: 6-8 pm Tuesday, February 22, 2011 in the funeral home. Funeral: 11 am Wednesday, February 23, 2011 at First Baptist Church of Pooler.
