Their journeys are chronicled on their website:

**********************************

The slain Americans have been identified as Jean and Scott Adam, of Marina del Rey near Los Angeles, and Phyllis Macay, 59 and Bob Riggle, 67 of Seattle, Washington.

The Quest was the home of the Adams who had been sailing around the world since December 2004 with a yacht full of Bibles.

The experienced yacht enthusiasts from California and Washington are the first Americans killed by Somali pirates since the start of attacks off East Africa several years ago.

Pirates had hijacked the 58-foot yacht Quest south of Oman on Friday. Since then, four U.S. warships and sky-high drones shadowed the vessel's movement as pirates tried to sail it to the Somali shore. U.S. officials negotiated with the captors via radio.

Jean was born in NY and moved to Southern California with her parents, George and Vivian Hawkins when she was a child. She was a graduate of Pomona College and UCLA School of Dentistry. She had a dental practice in Santa Monica.
