Francis (Frank) Paul Solomon, 91, a resident of Warren, for 54 years, and since mid2004 a resident of Aurora Manor Nursing Home, near Cleveland, Ohio, died on Saturday, November 22, 2008. Born June 9, 1917, Mr. Solomon was the 7th of 11 children of Michael and Mary Ivan Solomon, immigrants from Slovakia. He graduated from Johnstown High School in 1935 and Bliss Electrical School in 1946. He was married to the former Frances E. Prostredny from 1942 until her death in 1966, and to the former Marian Neurohr Martin from 1969 until her passing in 2004. Mr. Solomon retired from the Pennsylvania Electric Co. (Penelec) in 1982, where he was superintendent of the Warren and Seneca power stations. He started as a laborer with the company in Johnstown, Pa., leaving for the U.S. Army during WWII. Serving with the 11th Airborne Division, 511th Parachute Regiment, he fought in the Pacific Theater and rose to the rank of captain. Following the war, he attended electrical school and returned to Penelec. Transferred to Warren in 1950, he rose to superintendent in 1966. In the community he served as president of Holy Redeemer Church's Holy Name Society, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and the Warren Rotary Club. He also became active at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, enjoyed traveling in the US and Europe, was a Hospice volunteer and doting grandfather. He is survived by his children, Barbara Solomon Hsse and husband, Charles of Chagrin Falls, Ohio, Frank Solomon, Jr. and wife, Judy of Hollidaysburg, Pa., Maureen Solomon Sullivan of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, Stephen Solomon and wife, Nancy of Quarrysville, Pa., Jerome Martin and wife, Christine of Lisle, IL. and San Diego, Ca., Patricia Martin of Warren, Mary Martin Geckle and husband, Edward of Fairfield, Ohio, Thomas Martin and wife, Veronica of Chalfont, Pa., Terrance Martin and wife, Caroline of Springfield, Va.; one brother, Andrew Solomon of Baltimore, Md.; 23 grandchildren, 19 greatgrandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, and wives, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Michael, John, Joseph, Paul, Louis and Peter Solomon; sisters, Agnes Cigich, Margaret Faint and Mary Irvine; and a granddaughter, Katie Martin.
