Actor. He was a popular character actor whose career lasted nearly half a century. He began his career working his way across the country in stock productions and tours, arriving in Los Angeles around 1931. Making the transition to movies, he landed the lead role in his very first film a Universal serial, "The Airmail Mystery" (1932) and married his leading lady actress Lucile Brown. He went on to appear in hundreds movies such as "King Kong" (1933), "I Promise to Pay" (1937), "The Grapes of Wrath" (1940), "Mighty Joe Young" (1949), "In Cold Blood" (1967) and "The Barefoot Executive" (1971). He also appeared in countless TV series as a regular on shows to include "Navy Log", "State Trooper", "The Untouchables", "Mister Ed" and "It Takes a Thief".
