Edward Feininger Sr. was born in Radstadt, South Russia on December 17, 1893, the son of Martin Feininger and Maria Eva Daum Feininger. He came to the US aboard the SS Batavia, arriving in New York, NY on February 27, 1911. He had $15 on him when he arrived in this country. He worked on a farm in New England, ND as a mechanic and then went to work for the Round House of the Northern Pacific Railroad. On April 13, 1925 he became an American citizen. In 1929 he went to work at Ford Garage in Dickinson, ND and in 1930 for Sax Motor. He later worked for Herb McKenzie and Fridley Motors until retiring in 1959. On October 28, 1918 he married Mary T. Privratsky at St. Wenceslaus church in Dickinson, ND. They had 8 children. He continued to be a "Deere" man (John Deere Tractors) his entire life. He played the harmonica, his favorite song was "Pretty Red Wing" He spoke eleven languages, and spent his leisure hours making gadgets of every kind. He passed away in the Dickinson Nursing Center of congestive heart failure. He was preceeded in death by his parents and two sons, Alphonse and Edward Feininger Jr.
