Michael enlisted in the Marines at the Parris Island MCRD 10 October 1966, two days after his 18th birthday.
After arriving in Vietnam, Michael was assigned to 1st Platoon of Alpha Company, 1st Antitank Battalion, 1st Marine Division.
During Operation Silver Lance, about 5 kilometers west southwest of Dien Ban, Michael and another Marine were on a Ontos A-34, when it hit a hostile land mine and Michael received multiple fragmentation wounds to his back. He died at the Station Hospital in Danang of the wounds sustained 22 December.
Survived by his parents, Michael and Dorothy Hope Romanchuk, and his sisters of 326 Constitution Avenue, Hellertown, Pennsylvania.
