David R. Jackson, 60, of Gardendale, Ala., formerly of Cairo, W.Va., departed this life following a brief illness on Monday, March 21, 2005, at Birmingham, Ala.
Mr. Jackson was born Oct. 21, 1944, at Parkersburg, to Olin D. Jackson of Harrisville and the late LuLu Jackson. He was a retired truck driver for Landstar Corp. of Birmingham, and was a graduate of Cairo High School with the Class of 1962. He was a member of the Teamsters Union in Alabama and Cairo Lodge No. 114, AF&AM. Mr. Jackson was commander of the FAL of American Legion Post 255, Fultondale, Ala., and was a member of the Gateway Baptist Church of Gardendale.
He is survived by a son, Darryl Jackson of Oneonta, Ala.; daughter, Theresa Butcher of Arvilla, W.Va.; fiancee, Pat Price of Gardendale; stepdaughters, Nancy Chesser and Wanda Newport, both of Birmingham; a brother, Ralph D. Jackson of Cairo, W.Va.; a sister, Sue Byrd of Belleville, W.Va.; and 10 grandchildren.
Mr. Jackson was preceded in death by a brother, Lawrence Jackson and a stepson.
Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday at the IOOF Cemetery at Cairo, with the Rev. Scott Stewart officiating. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Friday and after 10 a.m. Saturday at the Raiguel Funeral Home, Cairo.
