Beloved Wife of Rev. Harry Colas, Pastor of Methodist Church at Elysburg, Passed Peacefully to Rest Sunday Morning

Mother Dies less than 2 months ago

Mrs. Sara Frances Walburn, estimable and beloved wife of the Rev. Harry Colas, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal Church, Elysburg, slept peacefully into her last rest at the church parsonage at 6 o'clock yesterday morning as devoted members of the family, physician and trained nurse sought desperately to maintain the spark of life in the beloved young matron,
who during the past several months, had been a sufferer from a complication and which terminated in heart disease, the latter causing the death of Mrs. Colas, which came less than two months following the demise of her mother, Mrs. Ida Tillet Walburn, who succumbed July 9 at the Colas residence.

News of the death of Mrs. Colas, who was a native of this city and one of the most widely known Christian women of the county, spread rapidly and cast a pall over the rural town of her adoption and her native heath here.

Ill during the past two years, Mrs. Colas' illness was severely aggravated by the sudden death of her mother as the latter sojourned at the parsonage residence at Elysburg. Twelve days ago the estimable young woman became bedfast and immediately her condition became serious. A trained nurse and physicians were in constant attendance and while the sufferer rallied at intervals, her condition became alarming on Sunday and grew steadily worse throughout the night. Death came soon following the coming of dawn yesterday morning.

Sara Frances, daughter of James and Ida A. Tillet Walburn, was born in this city August 13, 1893, and received her education in the local schools. Early in girlhood the then Miss Walburn had determined upon a life of Christian service and as a young woman entered the Lucy Webb Hayes Training School for Deaconesses at Washington, DC, and from which institution she was graduated with high standing. To be fully prepared for humanitarian service, the young woman took a post graduate course in Sibley Hospital, Washington, and still later pursued further religious training at Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois.

During a period of two years following completion of her course at Moody Institute, Miss Walburn was engaged in settlement work in Chicago and subsequently became a deaconess in the Methodist Episcopal church.

On June 20, 1920, the esteemed young woman became the wife of the Rev. Harry Colas, pastor of the Elysburg Methodist Episcopal church and became active in association with her husband in his religious work. A woman of exceptional mental achievements, endowed with a charming personality and pleasant approach, Mrs. Colas became beloved and respected by everyone who knew her. She was a most devoted and loving helpmate as wife and assistant and a most devout mother, daughter and sister. The companionship of Rev. and Mrs. Colas and their children was a community standard in many homes and the severance of the happy tie served to crush the well known young pastor and others of the family.

Surviving Mrs. Colas are her husband, three children, Robert 7, Ernestine 4, and Joyce 2, together with a sister, Mrs. Leon Adams, and a brother, Fred Walburn, the latter two of this city. All have the sympathy of the entire community in their bereavement, particularly sad because of the passing seven weeks ago of Mrs. Colas' mother.

The funeral is to be held from the Methodist parsonage at Elysburg at
2 o'clock Thursday afternoon, with the Rev. Dr. Shue, superintendent of the Sunbury district of the Central Pennsylvania Methodist Episcopal conference to officiate.

Burial will be made in the Odd Fellows' cemetery here.
