Daughter of William & Rebecka Rock. In 1900 Brimfield Twp., census both of her parents places of birth were listed as Virginia.

OBITUARY - Mrs. Mary McMullen

Mary Elizabeth Rock was born in Schellsburg, Pa., Oct. 1, 1827, and died at her home in Brimfield, Ded. 5, 1916, at the ripe age of 89 years, 1 month and 4 days.

Her childhood years were spent in her Pennsylvania home where she was married on Feb. 25, 1849, to John McMullen, with whom she happily, lived until his death in 1891. To this union were born ten children, three of whom died in childhood. The other seven grew up, married and established homes of their own. One of the seven, Mrs. Joshua Hibbs, her eldest daughter, died two years ago at her home here. In 1856 they came to Elmwood and since that time she has lived in Peoria county.

She grew up a member of the Lutheran church, the church of her parents. When married she united with her husband in the Methodist Episcopal church, for which she was a faithful, helpful and consistent member for more then thirty some years. She was 88 years old the first day of October, and spent the morning hour
in her usual place of worship in the sanctuary, having walked four blocks to church. Thus she was always giving her word and influence a testimony to righteousness. A daughter remarked, "her life was an Inspiration, her death a benediction." Her life had its ups and downs, its conflicts, defeats, and victories. But now after four score and nine years, her going is indeed like the end of a perfect day. A few hours before the end she remarked, "I have everything I need, every want supplied, wait for the coming of my Lord "

Six children, three sons and three daughters watched the life go out, and remain, Charles A. and Harry R., of Peoria, John H. of Trlvoli, Mrs. Lettie Snyder of Arvilla, N. Dakota, Mrs Mary L. Brown of Peoria, and Mrs. Anna M. Ireton of New London, Iowa There are also thirty-six grandchildren and twenty two great grandchild;, one half sister living in Alennrook, Pa., and other relatives and many friends

The aged saint has dwelt among the people for so many years that she will be greatly missed though quiet in demeanor, she has has always been active, useful and helpful. We are glad for her life, comforted in her death with the thought of her happy entrance in the life eternal.

The funeral service was held at the M. E. church In Brimfield on Thursday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. The sermon was preached by her pastor, Rev. J. S. White. Fitting words the eulogy of the beautiful life and character of the deceased were spoken by her friend and neighbor Rev. G. W. Scott, pastor of the Congregational Church. Music was furnished by Mrs. H. O. Cady, Mrs. Addison Pacey, Judson Harding and Leland Pacey, with Mrs. S. H. Neikirk, accompanist.

The pall bearers were Charles, John and Harry McMullen, J. Hibbs, W. D. Snyder and J. A. Ireton.

The funeral cortege proceeded by automobile to Elmwood where the body was laid to rest by the side of the husband In Elmwood cemetery.
