Obituaries Maurice "Shorty" Miller
Maurice F. "Shorty" Miller, 70, of Jefferson City, was born on August 22, 1923, in Houston, Texas, a son of Horace Greeley and Lela Gertrude McGee Miller and died at 10:30 p.m., on Tuesday, September 28, 1993, in St. Mary's Health Center, Jefferson City, of an apparent hearth attack.
Mr. Miller was united in marriage on January 8, 1955, at Charleston to the former Velma Faye Cockrum. He was preceded in death by his father on July 26, 1941; his mother on August 22, 1923; one half brother, Robert Miller and two half-sisters, Mrs. Wilma Reeded and infant Helen Louise Miller.
Mr. Miller was a member of the Vienna United Methodist Church, Vienna and the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2693, Jefferson City. He was employed by the Missouri Highway Department with the Bridges and Sand Department, Jefferson City, for thirty-six years, retiring on August 1, 1985.
Survivors include: his wife, Mrs. Velma Faye Miller of the home in Jefferson City; one step-son, Arthur L. Riley, St. Louis; his step-mother, Mrs. May King, Rolla; two half-brothers, Charles Miller, St. Louis and Delbert Miller, Kansas City; one step-brother, Donnie King, Rolla; two half-sisters, Mrs. Delores Swarthout, Wellsville and Ruth Allen, Rolla; and two step-grandsons, Danny Riley and Arthur L. Riley, Jr. both of St. Louis.
After resting in the Vienna Chapel of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes, funeral services were conducted for Mr. Miller at 2:00 p.m., on Friday, October 1, 1993, in the Vienna United Methodist Church, Vienna with Rev. Bruce Edwards, Pastor, officiating. Three hymns were sung for the funeral service and organist, Mrs. Joyce Honse, played appropriate organ selections for the prelude and postlude of the service.
Interment was in the Vienna Public Cemetery. Pallbearers for Mr. Miller were Henry Duffin, Dave James, Bill Asher, Max John, Elmer Chambers and Frank Charleston. Honorary pallbearers were coworkers from the Missouri Highway Department.
Memorials are suggested to the Vienna United Methodist Church, Vienna, Parsonage Fund, with envelopes being available at the Vienna Office of the Birmingham-Martin Funeral Homes.
