Sergeant Rue served with the 7th Ferrying Group, 307th Ferrying Squadron. He was killed when B-24D Liberator #42-72880, on which he was the Flight Engineer,crashed on take-off from Peterson Army Airfield, near Colorado Springs, Colorado.
Captain Neils Chievitz and 1st Lieutenant Ronald V. Erickson also perished.
