P.O. Charles Shine, DSN 8185, badge number 1707, was commissioned as a Police Officer on 10/18/1971. After graduation from the academy P.O. Shine was assigned to the following Districts and Divisions. The 2Nd, Mobile Reserve Section, 8Th, 1St, 1St District Public Affairs Division, Public Affairs Division, 4Th, 4Th District Area Detectives, Special Assignments Division, Fleet Services Division, and finally the Traffic Safety Division. During his career he was awarded 2 Letters of Commendations on 08/22/1975 and 07-18-1979. When Officer Shine retired on 01/05/2009 he had served a total of 37.22 years of service. He was also a veteran of the United States Army having served from 12-01-1969 to 02-01-1971 and attaining the rank of Specialist 4Th Class.

Beloved husband of Deborah Shine (nee Gaterman); dear father of Tim (Leslie), Kevin (Marcela) and John (Katie); loving grandfather of Madeline, Colin, Lucas and Emma; son of the late Jack and Elizabeth Shine; dearest brother of Mary Sinak, John Shine and Michael Shine; son-in-law of Walter and Maxine Gaterman; brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and friend.

Charlie was a retired police officer with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. He served for over 37 years. He was a member of the St. Louis Police Officer's Association and was on the executive board.

In lieu of flowers, donations to The Backstoppers Inc. or St. Anthony's Hospice appreciated.

Services: Funeral from KUTIS SOUTH COUNTY Chapel, 5255 Lemay Ferry Rd. (at Butler Hill), on Wed., Dec. 8, 11:30 a.m. to St. Bernadette Catholic Church for 12 p.m. Mass. Visitation Tuesday, 4-8 p.m.
