The 1870 Census lists an Elizabeth McClintic, at what appears to be age 49, with this family, and she is still with the family in 1880 - listed as Bessie. This is probably the sister of William McClintic IV, born 5 Mar 1821.

Colonel William (known as "Peedles") is the present County Surveyor of Bath, and has served as such for a number of years. He owns and occupies the old homestead of his father and his wife (Nancy) who is the daughter of Colonel Andrew H. Byrd.

WILLIAM LEARNED THE SURVEYING BUSINESS FROM HIS UNCLE JOSIAH SHANKLIN. When he married in 1836 he lived on land given to his wife by her father ANDREW BYRD, from near Williamsville, Virginia. When WILLIAM IV'S FATHER DIED IN 1861 he returned to his father's place on Jackson's River. Part of the place was left in his sister ELIZABETH'S name and WILLIAM WAS TO LIVE WITH HER AND CARE FOR HER, then he or his heirs were to inherit the property. WILLIAM died before his sister and his heirs inherited the property.
