John was the son of Adam Kippes. About 1881 he immigrated to the United States and settled in Louisville, Kentucky. On 20 Oct 1885 he married Mary Wilhelmina Michel. Census records indicate that they had eight children but records have been found for only six: Sophia, Annie, Leona, Mary, Cecilia and Henrietta. For many years he was a driver and expressman. John died of chronic interstitial nephritis at the age of 74.
