NEW SALEM — Margaret Ann "Peggy" Hanson was called home by our Heavenly Father to eternal rest on Feb. 23, 2011. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Feb. 28, at St. Pius Catholic Church, New Salem, with the Rev. Amalraj Roche, MSFX as celebrant. Burial will be at St. Pius Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. Sunday at St. Pius Catholic Church, with a parish rosary/vigil at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Monday.

Peggy was born in Minot on Jan. 29, 1960, to Norbert and Marjorie Foley Lange. Throughout her lifetime, Peggy lived in Lincoln Neb.; Boise, Idaho, and Seattle. Her family settled in Bismarck, where she graduated from Century High School in 1978. While growing up, Peggy was involved in gymnastics, cheerleading and music. In 1982, she married Anthony "Tony" Kautzman and was blessed with two sons, Kevin and Kellen. Tony passed away in 1987. After graduating from the University of Mary in 1988, she married Todd Hanson in Robinson and shortly after they started their first teaching jobs in St. Anthony. In 1989, their family was completed when Peggy got her "Chelsey girl." Peggy's teaching family journey has taken her to Roosevelt, Custer and Fort Lincoln schools in Mandan and Cannon Ball Elementary. After completing her English degree in 2008, she began teaching at New Salem-Almont High School, where she was presently employed.

Peggy's passion for life was always evident in the positive energy she emanated and her bright smile and eyes. She had a genuine gift for putting people at ease, making people feel special and communicating in every authentic manner. She loved music, playing cards and board games, cooking (especially known for her signature ham and Scotcheroos), watching movies, history documentaries and certain TV obsessions such as American Idol. She was a gracious hostess who held wonderful get-togethers for family, friends and neighbors. All who were blessed with Peggy's friendship deeply appreciated her sense of humor, warm heart, wisdom and understanding. Peggy's Irish Heritage allowed her to make every short story long….; she was also affectionately known for somehow taking the "long-cut" to any destination; needless to say, her new GPS freed her. Peggy loved books and her love of books inspired many children and adults alike to read the books she recommended. Her 10-year employment at Barnes and Noble fed her passion and allowed her to share it with others. Peggy loved her students and treated them like family. She was very happy and excited about her newest venture directing plays and coaching the speech team. She was making time to write original works for publication which had been a life-long goal and her students have been performing some of her original work. Peggy was a "natural" teacher who shared her wisdom, patience and unconditional love with countless young people in her classroom and as a second "mom" to many in her lifetime.

Peggy's favorite pastime was spending time with her family whom she deeply loved; they were the source of her pride and joy. She treasured time spent with her parents, siblings and all extended family at family reunions and special events. She loved sharing in all the experiences of her own family from the dinner table, to holidays like Christmas at Cross Ranch, and to many activities of her children which revolved around sports, music and theater, where she was always there supporting and encouraging them. She was an involved mother who took the time to make occasions, especially birthdays, special and memorable. Peggy enjoyed going out to eat, but especially loved her dinner and mall dates with Chelsey. Most recently she looked forward to every opportunity of spending time with her beautiful baby granddaughter, Ellie, and taking trips to visit "the boys" and their wives. As an empty-nester, Peggy always looked forward to getting to hang out with her "luvf" Todd in their cozy New Salem home which she loved. Peggy will be terribly missed by her family and everyone who was blessed by her life but her beautiful spirit will live on in all whom she has inspired.

She will be dearly missed by her beloved husband, Todd; her daughter, Chelsey and her fiance, Cody Smith, Rapid City, S.D.; her two sons, Kevin (Elaine) Kautzman, Austin, Texas, and Kellen (Lonaeja) Kautzman, Las Vegas; her father, Norbert Lange; sisters, Pat (Meade) Foster, Foristell, Mo., LaVonne Aull, Bismarck, Rene (Jim) Fischera, Florida, Kathleen (Hank) Fraczek, Washington, Paula (Tim) Schares, Plattsburgh, N.Y., and Lisa Lange (Jim Peterson), Minneapolis; brothers, John (Kathy) Lange, Seattle, and Jerome (Paula) Lange, Kentucky; and granddaughter, Eleanor Rose Kautzman.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Marjorie Lange; her sister, Mary LaFleur; and brother, Steve Lange.
