Albert "Al" Petroff died peacefully at home in Shoreview, Minnesota on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2010, with his loving wife Mildred "Mille," of 61 years, at his side.

Al Petroff was born and raised in Missouri Valley. After high school, Al enlisted in the US Army Air Force and served from 1943-1946 during WWII. Al was a radar mechanic and attained the rank of staff sergeant. Al's tour of duty took him to China, India, and Burma. After the war, Al went to work for the Chicago Northwest Railroad and also the Union Pacific Railroad, as a rail inspector. He met the love of his life, Mildred "Millie" Foreman, in Missouri Valley, and they were married in Fremont, Neb., in 1949. Al attended the Iowa State University in Ames and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering in 1956.

Al and Millie moved to Minnesota in 1956, and settled in Shoreview, Minn., in 1959, where they lived for the next 50 years. In Minnesota, Al went to work for Univac as a supervisor until 1962, and then went to work for WCCO Television from 1962 until he retired in 1986. Al worked as an electrical engineer and cameraman for WCCO and worked with many WCCO television personalities.

Al loved to golf, take fly-in-fishing trips to Canada, camp, work with ceramics, and was a very talented air-brush painter. Al enjoyed music and dancing and loved to play the piano. Most of all, Al enjoyed being a dedicated and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend.

Al is survived by his wife, Mildred; his daughter, Linda (John) Anderson of Shoreview, Minn.; his grandson-in-law, Kevin (Kelly) Kelly of Lino Lakes, Minn.; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Ashley Kelly of Lino Lakes, Minn.; brother, Chris (Donna) Petroff of Council Bluffs; and brother-in-law, Cliff Foreman of Newton.

Al is preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Nora Petroff and his loving granddaughter, Kelly (Anderson) Kelly.
