Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Monday at DeRoo Funeral Home, Moline. Burial will be in National Cemetery, Arsenal Island. Visitation will be 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Mellady was born Dec. 1, 1920, in Benton County, Ind., daughter of Frank and Ethel Smith Haselby. She married Vincent P. Mellady on March 11, 1944, in Dodge City, Kan. He preceded her in death on May 4, 1994.
Janet was a graduate of Michael Reese Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She was employed at the former Moline Public Hospital as a registered nurse for more than 20 years, retiring in 1978.
Janet was proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She loved all of her friends and activities at Crosstown Square. She liked staying in touch with the more than 50 pen pals she had across the country. She enjoyed crocheting and had crocheted 350 baby hats for Illini Hospital.
Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Joanell and Lesley West, Memphis, Tenn., Joyce and Steve Woodward, Geneseo; grandchildren, Jim West, Ian West, Adam Woodward and Ryan Woodward; and great-grandchildren, Shelby West, Hunter Wallis, Tanya Castleman and Lance English.
