A. J. (Andy) George, 69, for the past 35 years chief engineer at the Fayetteville water plant, died at City hospital at 10:45 a.m. today following a stroke suffered two days ago.

Mr. George was engineer, lineman and fireman at the city's first power plant, which was located where the courthouse stands today. for 12 years he was engineer at the Missouri Lead and Zinc company at Joplin.

Mr. George was born Sept. 27, 1873, at Springdale, Mo., the son of Joseph N. and Nellie Owens George. He was a member of the Methodist church at Joplin. He was married to Miss Lula belle Payne in 1895, and she preceded him in death in 1920. He was married in 1931 to Mrs. Dora Parker, who survives him.

Other survivors are five sons, Henry and Rex of Fayetteville, Harry of Joplin, Raymond and Joe of Orange, Calif.; two daughters, Mrs. Howard Brown of Jacksonville and Mrs. Dolph Meredith of Fayetteville; 15 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Funeral arrangements under direction of Nelson-Savage funeral home, are incomplete.
