Mrs. Mary Sleek, Resident Here 40 Years, Dies (1958)

Mrs. Mary Louise Sleek, 79, of 801 South Ijams street, a resident of Garrett for 40 years, died Thursday at 12:40 a.m. in the Barkley Convalescent home at Auburn where she had been a patient for three weeks. She had been ill for two months and complications caused her death.
The body was taken to the McKee funeral home in Garrett but no arrangements have yet been made.
Mrs. Sleek was born Oct. 10, 1878, at Albion, a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Francis Lock. She was married to Wm. H. Sleek, a B. & O. carman, who died in May, 1945.
Surviving are three sons, Cloysey of Gibsonburg, O., Claude of Auburn and C. Dale of 104 South Peters street, Garrett; six daughters, Mrs. Ruby King, Mrs. DeVella DeWitt and Mrs. Mary Harper [Harber] of Auburn, Mrs. Della Brown of Mishawaka, Mrs. Edna Byanski of Bowling Green, O., and Mrs. Clara Goldenetz of Defiance, O.; 25 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; a brother, Orlando Lock of Brimfield; and a sister, Mrs. Pearl Ackerman of Brimfield. Two daughters preceded the mother in death.
Mrs. Sleek was a member of the Garrett Church of Christ.
