Carol's obituary:

Carol Ann Karre, 62, of Greeley died Tuesday, Oct. 12, at home with family and friends after a three-year battle with cancer.

She was born Jan. 6, 1942, in Greeley to Pat and Vera (Walker) Peterson. She grew up in the Kuner area and lived east of Greeley and close to the South Platte River all her life. She graduated from Greeley High School in 1959 and attended a year at the University of Northern Colorado.

On May 26, 1962, she married Henry Karre in Greeley.

The Karres lived on a 50-acre stock farm, raising registered sheep. Because of Henry's job as a pipefitter, Carol managed the farm; irrigating, lambing, haying and working with their children on 4-H projects of breeding and market sheep. She was proud that both children won championships at the Weld County Fair and Colorado State Fair.

The joy of her life was her grandchildren, Preston and Tyla, both involved in 4-H and other activities.

Mrs. Karre's second joy was her volunteer work. She was involved with the Weld County Fair Board, was president of the board for one term and served for 15 years. She also served on the Island Grove Park Advisory Board and the Weld County Extension Advisory Board. She was a longtime member of the Northern Colorado Sheep Breeders Association and Colorado Wool Growers. She was sales manager for many years for the North Colorado Sheep Breeders Association Spring Club Lamb Sale and Fall Bred Ewe Sale.

Mrs. Karre and Gene Inloes were instrumental in starting the market lamb carcass contest at the Weld County Fair. She also served on the first quality assurance committee, which spread across the country at livestock shows. She expressed her thanks to all who supported her during her life.

She loved baseball and watching it on two televisions. She also enjoyed needlework and weekend drives through Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado.

Survivors are her husband, Henry of Greeley, her daughter, Holly and husband Bob King of Greeley, her daughter-in-law, Kris Knez, wife of Tyler Knez; and her grandchildren, Preston and Tyla Karre, all of Greeley. Also surviving are her sister, Betty of Kersey; her brothers, Larry of Pierce, Pink of Arizona, Richard of Nebraska and Bill of Texas; and her mother, Vera of Kersey.

She was preceded in death by her father, Pat; her younger sister, Dottie; and her son, Quint, who was killed in a car accident in 1995; she called this the most profound loss of her life, more so than dealing with terminal cancer.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church of Greeley, 917 10th Ave., Greeley. Interment will be in at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Greeley, next to her son.

Friends may visit from 4-8 p.m. Friday at Stoddard Funeral Home.

Instead of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care of Northern Colorado or to the Carol Karre Memorial Fund in care of Stoddard, 3205 West 28th St., Greeley, CO 80634.
