AGED WOMAN IS CALLED BY DEATH
MRS. JAMES HARRIS EXPIRED AT HER HOME SUNDAY NOON
ILL PAST 2 YEARS
Funeral Services From Home of Her Son Tuesday Afternoon at 3 O'clock
Mrs. Sarah Jane Harris, aged 81 years, 6 months and 7 days, wife of James Harris, prominent local civil war veteran, passed away at 12 o'clock noon Sunday at her home, 632 East Fifteenth street, following an illness of more than two years which followed a stroke of paralysis suffered in February 1924. Since that date she had been an invalid.
Sarah Jane Hazlet was born in Woodstock, Kentucky on February 22, 1845 and after being reared to young womanhood there she was united in marriage March 25, 1864, to James Harris and to their union four children were born, three of the number, John, Mrs. Milton Montgomery, and Mrs. George Mathieu, having preceded the mother to the grave. The husband and one son, Robert Harris, 1918 south I street, survive, together with one brother, William Hazlet, of Stanford, Ky., eight grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Mrs. Harris united with the Christian church early in life and had ever lived a devout Christian life. She was a kind and loving mother and wife and centered her attentions in her home. Following the death of her daughter, Mrs. George Mathieu, she reared three small children which survived her, displaying a love for them that could not be distinguished from that of a mother.
She was the oldest of a large family of children and with her passing but one of these survives, the brother in Kentucky.
Following her death the remains were removed to the Day & Carter funeral home Sunday afternoon where they were prepared for burial and later were taken to the home of her son on south I street where funeral services will be conducted at three o'clock Tuesday afternoon by Rev. Joseph N. Greene, pastor of the First Methodist church. Interment will follow in Green Hill cemetery.
