JOSE R. ALCORTA, 88, of Silver City passed away on Wednesday, February 10, 2010 at Gila Regional Medical Center with his family at his bedside.

Cremation is entrusted to Baca's Silver City Crematory. A procession will meet at 1:30 in the afternoon on Saturday, February 13, 2010 at Baca's Funeral Chapels and proceed on to the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Cemetery in Silver City where a graveside service will be held at 2 o'clock in the afternoon with Deacon Bill Holguin officiating followed by inurnment. Veteran honors accorded by Grant County Veterans.

Jose was born on November 13, 1921 in Faywood to Florencio P. and Teresa (Romero) Alcorta. He served his country in the Army during World War II. He was a retired car loader for the mining industry. Jose was a fun loving man who enjoyed making people laugh, even at the end he had his children laughing. He loved being around his family and friends, going camping and doing mechanics.

Jose is survived by his sons, Joe R. Alcorta of Silver City, Henry R. Alcorta wife Cecilia of Silver City, Gene R. Alcorta wife Betty of Santa Clara and Tony C. Alcorta Jr. of Silver City; daughters, Della A. Chavez husband Pete of Silver City, Maggie Hernandez husband Ruben of Silver City, Angie Portillo husband Freddy of Silver City, Teresa A. Hernandez husband Joe of Silver City, Eva Marquez companion Ruben of Silver City and Tomasina Provencio husband A.B. of Bagdad, AZ; brother, Pete Alcorta of Mimbres; sister Carlotta Sias of Mimbres; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren whom he enjoyed giving nicknames to.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father; wife, Tomasa R. Alcorta; sons, Tony Sr. and Ernest Alcorta; daughter, Aurora Cuevas; brothers, Luis and Vicente Alcorta; sister, Mage Madrid; and grandson, Tony Alcorta Jr.
