Lanark – Charles Vance Dame died late Friday afternoon (January 10, 1958) after suffering a heart attack while shopping in downtown Freeport. Coroner Gene Burke said Dame had been under a doctor's care for a heart ailment.
He was born August 29, 1888 in Lanark, the son of Charles and Sadie (Horning) Dame. He married Marie Cole of Kalamazoo, Michigan. His wife is the only known survivor. Dame's grandfather, D. W. Dame, was one of the early pioneers of the Lanark area and was influential in bringing the first railroad to Lanark.
Private service will be held Monday at 2:30 p.m. in the family home. Burial will be in Lanark Cemetery.
