Leon Keys was born the son of James and Eliza Lovett Keys on May 4, 1918, in Tahlequah. He died Thursday, Jan. 22, 2004, in Tulsa. Leon grew up in the Keys area, and had attended Bagley High School. For many years he worked at Ellis Glazing in Henryetta before retiring as a foreman in 1968. An avid sports fan, Leon liked to see his children and grandchildren play sports, and enjoyed watching OU football. He enjoyed walking - making many friends at Wal-Mart. Leon enjoyed fishing and gardening.

Leon has been preceded in death by his parents. He has survived two wives, Ethel McClellen Keys and Wilma Edmonds Keys. Also preceding him in death are two sons, Billy Keys and Leon Ross Keys Jr; Brothers Warren Buster, Richard, and Perry Keys, and his sister, Helen Parnell.

Leon is survived by three sons, James Andrew and his wife Darlene of Wetumka, OK, Larry Dale and his wife Brenda of Tahlequah, and Jerry Ross of Tahlequah; a daughter, Regina Hicks and her husband Donny of Tahlequah; Stepchildren, Joy Frazier of Utah, and Albert Frazier of Vinita, OK; two sisters Mary Elkins, and Flora Hendrix; 16 grand children, 13 great grand children; Pretty Boy his dog, and a host of other relatives, friends, and loved ones.


Funeral services for Leon "Red" Ross Keys, 84, of Tahlequah will 2:00 Monday, January 26, 2004, in the Pentecostal Holiness Church. Officiating will be Pastor Jack Carner.
Serving as pallbearers will be Donny Hicks, Schrader Hicks, Bruce Keys, Shawn Keys, Cody Keys, Chris Keys, and Jason Keys. Honorary pall bearers will be nephews.
Interment will follow in the Tahlequah City Cemetery under the care of Green Country
