He finished his medical schooling at Iowa City, Iowa and came to Lakota in 1929, taking over the practice of Dr. Schuell. They lived in Lakota until 1957 with the exception of two years he spent in the U.S. Army as a medical doctor. They retired in Rodgers, Arkansas, where they spent their winters, their summers were spent near Red Lake, Ontario, Canada.
