Chales Mark Smith,88,of Millville died Fri.,Jan. 2,2009,in Glen Oaks Health Care,New Castle.

He was born near Hagerstown on Mar. 6,1920,the son of J.W. and Maude (Shanklin)Smith and was a life long resident of Wayne and Henry counties. He was a retired employee of Perfect Circle/Dana Corp and was a member of New Castle Testament Church of Christ. An avid outdoorsman,Charlie particularly enjoyed fishing and gardening. He also enjoyed woodworking and small engine repair. He considered the special people in his life to be God,his family and his neighbors.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years,Audrey (Gay)Smith;son,Ronald J. Smith (Judy),of Millville,their daughters,Julie Spencer and Rhonda Hoffman;son William Smith (Gloria)of West Chester,OH.;their 3 daughters:Christina,Schorr, and Cheryl Prophetor;son,David D. Smith (Shanon )of Millville;their daughter Lora Smith;daughter Judy Arnette of Trinity,FL;10 grandchildren;a sister,Marian Mullen of Interlocken,FL;several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers,Paul Smith and James R. Smith;a sister,Emma Jean Leeka;a son-in-law,Jan Arnett.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday,Jan. 6,2009 in New Testament Church of Christ,Pastor Paul Gearhardt will officiate. Burial will be in Chicago Corner Cemetery.

Culberson Funeral Home,Hagerstown,is in charge of arrangements.
