Mrs. Clara Brettman

Mrs. Clara Brettman, beloved wife of Louis Brettman, of Bensenville, was called to her eternal home on Sunday evening, May 25, at 9:20 o'clock, after weeks of severe illness.

Mrs. Clara Wilhelmine Marie nee Schoppe Brettman was born on December 22, 1877 in Addison township, where she has resided her entire life. She was baptized in infancy in the St. John Evangelical church, and confirmed there by Rev. Wolf on Palm Sunday of 1891. She then lived with her parents on their farm until she was married to Louis Brettman on Dec. 15, 1897 in Immanuel's Evangelical church, the Rev. H. Fleer, pastor.

The couple moved immediately to their Green st. home in Bensenville, where they resided until 1912 when they moved to their new home one door west--the home in which Mrs. Brettman found her last sleep. Five children were born to the couple, Henry, having died in 1901, Edna and Elmer in 1907 and a baby in infancy. When Friedens church of Bensenville was organized the couple became charter members of the church.

There remain to mourn her passing, her grieving husband, one daughter, Mrs. Esther Burlanek of Bensenville, two step brothers, Alvin and Milton Shoppe of Addison township, one sister, Mrs. Amelia Bagley of Bensenville, and the stepmother, Mrs. John Schoppe of Addison township. In addition there is the one son-in-law, John Burlanek of Bensenville and one grand daughter, Mary Ann Burlanek, as well as a host of other relatives and friends, all of whom mourn the passing of this good woman, and extend their deepest sympathy and hands of service and love to the grieving family.

Memorial services were held in the Geils Chapel on Wednesday afternoon, May 28, and at Frieden's Evangelical church on this same afternoon, services being conducted by Rev. E. M. Ringe. Miss Cora Warnecke was the organist and Mrs. F. C. Fenton, the soloist. Interment was in Friedens cemetery.
