Mary is my gg-grandmother. She is the daughter of Rev. Thomas Davis and Jane Donnell.

She married 18 Jun 1857 Henry Charles Pitman, the minister that married them was Thomas Davis, Mary was 17 and is possible her father married them.

Mary L. (Jane) "DAVIS" PITMAN was admitted to the State Hospital at Nevada MO [Vernon County] 24 Mar 1901 at the age of 59. She passed away 3 Aug 1922 at the Nevada MO State Hospital, age 80.

Henry Pitman disappeared abt 1893 on a trip to buy land in Arkansas and no record of him has been found.

Henry Charles Pitman was in the Civil War age 25 years and a farmer.
Enlisted as a private as Waynesville (Miller Co.) MO 11 Aug 1864. He was born in Green Co., KY. He had blue eyes, brown hair and a dark complexion, was 5'7" tall. He applied for a war pension in 1889 in Howell Co., MO, Willow Springs. The two witnesses who signed for him were J. A. RITCHIE and Otto A. SHUTTER. Then in Feb 1893 he applied again from Johnson Co., AR, [in a] town called Coal Hill near Ft. Smith. The witnesses this time were W. M. KAY and G. W. NORICH of Coal Hill and Andrew Jackson ABBOTT of Willow Springs, MO. He was in the Union Army.
He disappeared and no one ever knew what became of him. He had a wife and 7 children. He was in the 48th Regiment, MO Vol Inf.
He was discharged at Benton Barracks, St Louis MO, 29 Jun 1865.
