Alfred Robbins is the oldest of three sons of James Ransom Robins and his wife, Kesiah Bunton Robins. Both Alfred and his brother, Tennessee, fought and died in the Civil War.

Alfred enlisted in the US Army on 24 Oct 1861 at the age of 21. He was in Company I, 4th Minnesota Infantry.

Alfred died at the age of 22 at Camp Big Spring, Mississippi.
