Adaline Bruen Grier known as "Ada" was one of the twelve founders of Pi Beta Phi fraternity at Monmouth College, Monmouth, IL. Pi Beta Phi, founded in 1867, was the first collegiate fraternal organization for women. A teacher and minister's wife, Mrs. Grier made many lasting friendships through Pi Phi. Her son, James Harper Grier, became the 5th President of Monmouth College.
