Marie N. Bruce, age 92, of Plymouth, went Home to be with the Lord February 17, 2011.
Marie was a kind, generous, and wise woman with an independent spirit who lived what she believed.
She was born on July 22, 1918, in Grafton, WI, the daughter of William and Nell Lindstedt.
Marie married Cecil O. Bruce of Denton, TX, and together they enjoyed a union that lasted over 67 years. Mr. Bruce preceded her in death on February 12, 2009.
The couple lived in Kenosha, WI, where they raised their four children, Lawrence, Jennifer, Kenneth, and Peggy.
Marie was a woman of great discipline and kept a busy schedule. She was recognized for volunteerism by the American Red Cross and the Veterans Administration. Her talents were well applied to interior design and she searched out the small antiques that filled her home. While dealing with repairs around the house, she wasn't afraid of climbing on the roof. With her children grown, she was free to pursue her lifelong love of reading. In 1980, the couple retired to Plymouth, Marie's hometown.
Early on, Marie became a Christian, and her mature faith was a constant anchor for her family. Throughout her entire life, she found comfort and encouragement in the Bible. A favorite memory of Mother is her sitting at the kitchen table with her devoted cat, Rocky, quietly studying her Bible and praying—her daily routine over the years.
In later years, even as her eyesight dimmed and with the health challenges that come with older age, her spirit remained vibrant. She had an inquisitive mind, and a lively interest in current events, especially politics.
Marie is survived by her four children, her daughters, Jennifer Bruce and Peggy Cupp of Plymouth; sons, Lawrence (Mary) Bruce and Kenneth (Virginia) Bruce of Pleasant Prairie; seven grandchildren, and eight great- grandchildren, and a nephew.
Her sister and brothers, and her son-in-law, Charles Cupp preceded her in death.
Private services will be held at Greenbush Cemetery, the Rev. Richard York, Pastor of Christian Life Assembly of God officiating.
Our mother taught us so many lessons about perseverance, a servant spirit, forgiveness and unconditional love. She is in Heaven with the Lord now, but the memory of our mother's love will never let us go.
