JAMES W. MILES
---James William Miles, 86, of La Plata, died Wednesday afternoon at 12:15 in a Kirksville hospital. He had been in failing health for several months.
---The son of Frank and Patricia (Chinn) Miles, he was born in Saline County on October 30, 1877. He married Ethel Gilbreath on November 23, 1961 in Sullivan county.
---Surviving are his wife; two grandsons, Herbert Miles of Richmond, California and Robert Miles of Webster Grove and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son.
---Mr. Miles opened a tinner shop in La Plata in 1906. Later he went into the plumbing and hardware business in La Plata where he remained until his retirement in 1947.
---He was a director of the La Plata State Bank and had been mayor of La Plata. He was a member of the La Plata Lodge No. 237, AF & AM and was a member of the La Plata Christian Church.
---Funeral services were held afternoon, July 17, at 2:30 in the Christian Church at La Plata with Rev. J.L. Shoemaker of Moberly and Rev. Stanley East, pastor of the Christian Church, officiating. Peggy Noble sang, accompanied by Rosina Berry at the organ. Burial was in the La Plata Cemetery.
---The body was at the Wilson Funeral Home in La Plata until 2:00 Thursday afternoon where it was taken to the family home where masonic services were held Thursday evening at 8:00.
---At noon Friday the body was taken to the church. The casket was closed at the funeral hour and not reopened.
---Bearers were M.E. Belt, John Elsea, George Begole, Ben Jones, Harold Biggs and Scott Gault.
