WALTERBORO: Mrs. Susie Crosby Stringfield, wife of the late Jesse Donald "Jack" Stringfield, passed away Friday in Charleston after a long and courageous battle with multiple myeloma that lasted for a year. She was 82.

Mrs. Stringfield was born January 20, 1929 in Walterboro, a daughter of the late Lindsey Crosby and Annie Sue Ritter Crosby.

She was a 1945 graduate of Walterboro High School where she was the Salutatorian of her class, and was also a graduate of Newberry College.

Mrs. Stringfield was a former secretary for the Fred Parker Funeral Home in the 1940's, and later devoted her life to her children and husband as a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of Ebenezer United Methodist Church in Ritter, where she was the church pianist for over 50 years.

She is survived by two sons, Donald A. "Donnie" Stringfield and wife Teresa of Green Pond, and Whitney J. Stringfield and wife Brigitte of Irmo. There are two daughters, Janice S. Sauls and husband David of Smoaks, and Joni S. Varnadoe and husband Bobby of Green Pond. Mr. Stringfield has one brother, Michael L. Crosby of Olin, NC and two sisters, Doris C. Arim of Charlotte, NC and Audrenia C. Williams of Walterboro. There are eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren that also survive.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM Sunday in the chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home with burial following in the Ebenezer United Methodist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be held Saturday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 PM at the funeral home.
