trooper charbonnier was making a stop at 3:15 am on sept. 2, 1994 of a van driven by paroled killer david clark. when asked for his paper work clark pulled a gun on trooper charbonnier and fired. trooper charbonnier returned fire and struck clark in the arm and head but not before being wounded one inch below his bullet proof vest. trooper charbonnier called for an ambulance and backup even though he was bleeding severly he was able to hold clark at gun point while fighting consciousness. he was airlifted to a hospital in boston and died in the operating room. he had just recieved a transfer to the norfolk D.A.s office. there is also a cenotaph on route 3 in kingston, ma. in his honor
