Asta Swenson McIntosh, 90, Osnabrock, ND, entered into the glory of her eternal life on Tuesday, February 15, 2011 in Langdon.

She was born on May 14, 1920 at home in Gardar, ND the second of five children of Franklin and Anna Johanneson Hall. Icelandic was spoken at home, and she learned English when she started elementary school in Gardar. She remained fluent in Icelandic throughout her life. She graduated from Gardar High School in 1938 and then attended Mayville State Teachers' College, graduating in 1940. She taught elementary school. She married Clarence Swenson in 1944 and lived near Hoople for eight years where they farmed. In 1952 they moved their farming operation to Osnabrock and raised 5 children. Clarence passed away in 1977. Asta worked at the Good Samaritan Center in Osnabrock for several years. She married Archie McIntosh in 1995. Archie passed away in 2005.

Asta was an active member of Dovre Lutheran Church where she was a Sunday school teacher, served as Church Secretary, sang in the church choir and held various ALCW and ELCA positions. Her passion for writing and expression took many forms. She was an avid letter writer, often writing long, news-filled essays as well as original poems to commemorate a person or event. She was the Osnabrock News Correspondent for the Cavalier County Republican for 31 years, retiring at age 85.

She was an enthusiastic volunteer working on many projects throughout the community, devoting time as a 4-H leader and a Happy Hour Homemaker officer. She was a long time member of the Good Samaritan Volunteer Club and the American Legion Auxiliary. An avid gardener, she loved to share bounty from her well cared for fruit and vegetable garden with friends and neighbors. She always considered herself a "Child of the Depression." She was loving, thrifty, wise, kind, generous, and had a great sense of humor. She loved taking long walks and spending time with friends and relatives. She was a woman of great faith and will be dearly missed by all who knew and spent time with her.
